Browns Make Shocking Firing on Broadcast Team

Updated:

This has been a trying season for the Cleveland Browns, who've been embroiled in controversy on and off the field. Thankfully the team will be able to put this year behind them after Week 18, but not before one more piece of drama.

Cleveland reportedly made a shocking fire on its broadcast team before kicking off on Sunday.

Former quarterback and current radio contributor Bernie Kosar announced before the team's Week 18 game that he was once again let go by the Browns. Kosar said he was "shocked" and "disappointed" by the franchise's decision.

This news seemed to come out of nowhere, but Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer provided further context. Cabot reports Kosar's firing was connected to his decision to place a legal bet on Cleveland's Week 18 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Kosar said on his radio show that he bet $19,000 on the Browns to beat the Steelers Sunday. He stated he'd donate the winnings to charity if the wager cashed.

The NFL's recent gambling partnerships have put an extra focus on league personnel maintaining the integrity of the game. Wide receiver Calvin Ridley is currenly on an indefinite suspension after it was revealed he bet on a contest while injured.

More details on Kosar's apparent departure are sure to arise once the team's Week 18 game concludes.
