Broncos Get Bad News With KJ Hamler Injury Update

Updated:

The Denver Broncos acquired quarterback Russell Wilson in hopes that surrounding him with weapons will result in a playoff berth. Those weapons have to stay healthy, though. Denver recently got bad news as wide receiver KJ Hamler could start training camp sidelined on the PUP list.

KJ Hamler Injury Update

Hamler is doing everything he can to get back on the field after suffering a dislocated hip and torn ACL last season. However, he has been limited during OTAs and the Broncos could opt to go with the safe route here. Placing Hamler on the PUP list gives them an option to stash him on the reserve list.

When healthy, Hamler provides offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur with an explosive deep threat to work into the fold. The 22-year-old's first two seasons have been marred by injuries, but he has still managed to rack up 455 yards and 3 touchdowns on 35 receptions in 16 games played (6 starts).

For now, the Broncos will continue to lean on Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy and Tim Patrick in the passing attack. Kendall Hinton and Montrell Washington could see a small increase in playing time if Hamler is forced to miss any action. Keep an eye on the Penn State product's status this summer.

Denver will look to break a six-year postseason drought this fall and give their fans something to cheer about. For now, the Broncos have odds set at -135 to secure a playoff berth, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
