Braves Provide Update on Michael Harris's Back Injury

Updated:

The Atlanta Braves were dealt a blow when centerfielder Michael Harris collided with an outfield wall last Thursday against the San Diego Padres. He hasn't played since then, but the Braves had a promising update regarding the 22-year-old's injury over the weekend.

Manager Brian Snitker told reporters Sunday that Harris — who was placed on the 10-day injured list with a back injury on April 7 — is "coming along good." Snitker further boosted the fanbase's spirits by adding that the promising outfielder isn't dealing with anything "lingering," either.

Michael Harris Injury Update

Although Harris's status has improved, Snitker said that "he wouldn't be playing yet." Nevertheless, Harris is participating in exercises, so it looks like he's trending in the right direction. The earliest that he can return from the IL would be on April 17 to begin a three-game series against, ironically, the Padres.

Harris wowed Braves fans in 2022 with 19 home runs, 64 RBIs, 20 stolen bases and a .297/.339/.514 slash line over 114 games. Not only did his efforts earn him NL Rookie of the Year honors, but he also finished 13th in the league's MVP voting.

Time will tell if Harris' IL placement helps him get back on track when he returns. The Georgia native has had a slow start to the 2023 campaign, tallying just 5 hits and an RBI with a .217 batting average through his first 23 at-bats.

Braves World Series Odds

If Atlanta is to win its second championship in three seasons, Harris must recreate last year's magic when he returns. For now, Snitker's club sits at +700 odds to win the 2023 World Series on FanDuel Sportsbook, ranking No. 3 in the Majors.
