Belmont Park Picks for Suburban Stakes and Belmont Derby Invitational and Oaks Top Saturday's Closing Card

This Saturday is the conclusion of the Belmont Park Spring and Summer Meet. The biggest stakes races come to a close as well with the $350,000 Grade 2 Suburban Stakes, $750,000 Grade 1 Belmont Derby Invitational and $500,000 Grade 1 Belmont Oaks Invitaional for fillies Also, the $175,000 Grade 3 Victory Ride Stakes for fillies completes the big day of racing on Saturday, July 8 at Belmont Park.
Following Arcangelo's (8/1) win in the Belmont Stakes (G1) June 10 and top jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr.'s win in the Just a Game Stakes (G1) June 9 aboard the favorite In Italian, Irad and his brother Jose battle for the jockey title with both sitting at 51 wins into Friday's races. Jose rode Marketsegmentation (6/1) to victory in the June 9 New York Stakes (G1).
Suburban Stakes (Race 5)
Saturday's $350,000 Grade 2 Suburban Stakes for older horses at 1 1/4 miles has the Ortiz brothers battling again in a compact field of five horses. Irad rides Unbridled Bomber (6/1). Jose will ride Tonal Impact (4/1) for the meets top trainer Linda Rice. She has 31 wins and trainer Chad Brown has 26 with both hitting at a 25% win rate. Brown has won more of the biggest stakes races to earn $3.4 million in purse money to Rice's $1.8 million. Red Gun (5/1) has the Churchill Downs/Ellis Park meet top jockey Tyler Gaffalione riding for trainer Mike Maker off the horses best speed figures his last two races going 1 1/2 miles.

Belmont Oaks Invitational (Race 8)
The $500,000 Grade 1 Belmont Oaks Invitational is for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/4 miles on the inner turf. Nine runners go to post at Irad Ortiz rides top win contender Prerequisite (5/1). Jose Ortiz rides longshot Strikingly Spun (15/1). Must consider Aspray (6/1) as a win contender and value play for leading trainer Chad Brown with Flavien Prat riding after winning five races on the 4th of July.

Belmont Derby Invitational (Race 10)
The $750,000 Grade 1 Belmont Derby Invitational features 11 three-year-old runners going 1 1/4 miles on the inner turf. A trio of top win contenders includes The Foxes (7/2), Silver Knot (6/1) and Far Bridge (4/1) with Jose Ortiz riding for leading trainer Todd Pletcher. Irad Ortiz rides Kalik (5/1) for trainer Chad Brown, who also saddles Redistricting (8/1) with Flavien Prat up.
The Foxes is a two-time Group 2 winner in Great Britain. Kalik Far Bridge, and Silver Knott were the top three finishers from the Grade 2 Pennine Ridge Stakes at Belmont Park on June 3.
