Angels Could Put Former All-Star on Trading Block at Deadline

Few teams have left fans feeling more disappointed this season than the Los Angeles Angels. Despite fielding two all-time great talents like Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout, the Angels sit second-last in the AL West with a 39-51 record, pivoting them as possible sellers ahead of the MLB trade deadline.

If the Angels do sell, they have several players that could net them some solid prospects in return. According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, one player that Los Angeles could put on the trade block is former All-Star starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard.

Angels Trade Rumors

Heyman says that "rival teams" are expecting that Syndergaard will "be made available in trade" over the coming weeks. The veteran hurler only joined the Angels on a one-year, $21 million contract this past offseason, but his becoming a free agent at the end of the year might have Los Angeles wanting to trade him instead of losing him for nothing.

Injuries held Syndergaard to only two starts and a 9.00 ERA in 2021, but he's managed to somewhat bounce back this year. The 29-year-old has a 5-7 record and a 4.00 ERA in 14 starts so far, giving up 20 walks while striking out 58 batters over 74.1 innings pitched.

Sure, Syndergaard might not be the Cy Young candidate that he once was, but he still has enough in the tank to provide a contender with a boost. Perhaps a change of scenery will help him get closer to his prime form.

Even if he's only a rental, the Angels should still get a decent return for the former 2010 first-round pick. Fans won't have to wait too long to find out if Syndergaard is going to a new team because the 2022 MLB trade deadline takes place on Aug. 2 at 6 p.m. ET.
