Amon-Ra St. Brown Injury Update Clouds Week 4 Fantasy Outlook

Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown has made a lot of fantasy managers happy so far this season. He currently ranks at the No. 3 WR in PPR-scoring leagues and is the Detroit Lions' top offensive weapon. An ankle injury that popped up against the Minnesota Vikings clouds his Week 4 outlook, though.

St. Brown did not have to leave the game on Sunday, but did undergo tests on Monday to determine the extent of the pain he was feeling in his ankle. The results were "encouraging" and the injury isn't being considered a long-term issue. The next step is deciding whether or not he suits up right away.

The Lion start a fresh practice week on Wednesday, so keep an eye on St. Brown's participation. Insider Tom Pelissero suggested Detroit could take a cautious approach here, so it's possible the 22-year-old is either held out or put on a snap count in Week 4. That obviously limits his fantasy ceiling.

A limited ceiling doesn't mean St. Brown should automatically be benched, though. All it takes is for one big plays for him to hit his projection and the Seattle Seahawks are allowing 16.2 yards per reception to opposing WRs. Tempering expectations and having a backup plan in place is the key.

Fantasy managers rostering St. Brown would be smart to pick up DJ Chark or Josh Reynolds off the waiver wire. Both players are already averaging over 5.0 targets per game and would see increased looks if the USC product can't give it a go. They are rostered in under 50% of Yahoo! leagues, too.

For now, St. Brown checks in at WR8 in The Duel's Week 4 PPR fantasy football rankings.
