Allen Robinson Fantasy Outlook Holds Onto Glimmer of Hope After Sean McVay Comments and Week 1 Usage

There's no denying that Allen Robinson's fantasy performance was a complete dud in his Los Angeles Rams' debut. Robinson notched just 1 reception for 12 yards (on 2 targets) for a stunning 2.2 PPR points.

Entering the season as WR26 according to ADP, this performance fell well short of preseason expectations. But, it's not time for Robinson fantasy managers to hit the panic button just yet.

McVay immediately addressed Robinson's lack of production, saying he wants to get his new WR2 more involved in the offense. By contrast, he simply alluded to a lack of rhythm when discussing Cam Akers' bust performance.

Robinson is the clear-cut No. 2 wideout in this offense and that was evident by every statistic save his actual targets. The ninth-year pro ranked second amongst LA's wideouts in snaps (65) and routes run (48), behind only Cooper Kupp.

It's also important to note how impressive the Bills defense looked on Thursday night. Rated as the No. 1 defense in preseason, according to ADP, Buffalo stymied the entirety of LA's offense outside of Kupp. Unproven cornerbacks Dane Jackson and Christian Benford more than held their own while the elite combination of safeties Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde locked down the Rams' passing attack.

Buffalo also held Matthew Stafford to just 240 passing yards, a number he fell short of in only two of his 17 starts last year. Los Angeles finished their 2021 campaign as a top-10 scoring offense and top-five passing attack.

Don't overreact. This game was an aberration against the best football defense on the planet and don't be surprised when Robinson can put up at least WR2 numbers the rest of the way.
