3 Teams Jacob deGrom has Dominated the Most

Updated:

Actually nicknamed the "deGrominator" during his time with the New York Mets, Jacob deGrom has been absolutely spectacular. Unlike the usual athlete, deGrom has seemed to get better with age, having his best two seasons in his most recent two years (2018-19) when he won back-to-back Cy Young awards.

His career record isn't tremendous, as he is famous for getting no run support from the Mets, but his 2.62 ERA and 35.5 WAR over the course of 171 starts both speak for themselves. deGrom almost always gives the Mets a chance to win when he takes the mound, but he particularly loves facing these three teams.

3. Atlanta Braves (7-7, 1.97 ERA)

The San Diego Padres and Arizona Diamondbacks deserve an honorable mention here, as deGrom has actually had better stats against both teams in fewer total games, but the Atlanta Braves are deGrom's preferred division rival. He actually has not pitched his best against the National League East besides Atlanta, especially the Miami Marlins who have his number. Against the Braves though, deGrom has a 1.97 ERA in 21 starts, striking out 10.7 batters per nine with a 0.990 WHIP.

2. Cincinnati Reds (3-1, 1.42 ERA)

deGrom seems to have one team in each National League division that he jumps on. In the NL Central, that team is the Cincinnati Reds. His 1.42 career ERA is fantastic and his .750 win percentage in six starts is better than usual considering his overall record. The ace's 11.6 strikeouts per nine innings were also impressive, and despite Cincinnati playing in a hitter's park, deGrom's ERA remained under 2.00 on the road against the Reds.

1. Colorado Rockies (4-1, 1.25 ERA)

Another team known more for slugging than pitching that deGrom has had success against is the Colorado Rockies. Even with slightly inflated Coors Field numbers, Jake has been "deGrominant" when facing the Rockies. He has a 1.25 ERA with 10.0 strikeouts per nine and a .800 win percentage in seven starts, which has to make Colorado one of his favorite teams to pitch against.
