3 Most Likely Trade Destinations for Cam Akers Ahead of Deadline

It wasn't too long ago that running back Cam Akers was expected to lead the Los Angeles Rams' backfield for years to come. That relationship has soured, though, and both sides have since agreed that a trade is best. It would be surprising to see Akers on the Rams past November 1, which is the date of the NFL trade deadline.

Reports claim LA is already fielding calls from multiple teams regarding the 23-year-old ball-carrier. Akers has logged 930 yards from scrimmage and 4 touchdowns across 19 career games and could provide depth for an RB-needy squad. Here's a look at three of his most likely landing spots.

Cam Akers Trade Destinations

1. Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles have to be all-in this season after starting off 6-0 for the first time since 2004. Adding any kind of talent to the roster should help them pull away in the NFC standings. Miles Sanders has looked the best he ever has this season, but he's already seen a whopping 105 rushing attempts across six games. Every other RB on the team has combined for 41 carries, so he could use some help. Adding Akers to the mix would give Philly's coaching staff an avenue to keep Sanders fresh by giving him a partner capable of taking over when needed. Akers averages 41.0 rushing yards per game in his career and 86 of his 151 yards this season have come after contact.

2. Buffalo Bills

If there's one thing slowing down the Bills' powerful offense right now, it's the lack of a strong rushing attack. Buffalo ranks 16th in rushing yards, but a large chunk of those have come from quarterback Josh Allen. An RB trio of Devin Singletary, Zack Moss and James Cook presents a lot more upside in the receiving game than the running game. Akers is a more traditional running back who does the bulk of his damage on the ground, which makes him a nice complement to this group. His price tag is likely to only be a mid-round pick, too.

3. Denver Broncos

Unlike the other two destinations, Denver is not a team in line to compete for a Super Bowl title this season. The Broncos sit at 2-5 and their front office would be smart to start looking ahead to the future. Veterans Melvin Gordon and Latavius Murray are nothing more than temporary fill-ins at RB right now. Young star Javonte Williams played well before his ACL injury, but there's no telling how he'll fare when he returns to the field next summer. Akers is under contract through the 2023 season and would give Denver a reliable starter or complementary back moving forward. Buying low on a former second-round selection would be a great strategy for the Broncos to take at the deadline.
