3 Most Likely Opponents for Jake Paul's Next Fight (UFC Superstar Leads the Way)

Updated:

To the delight of many boxing fans, Jake Paul is no longer undefeated in the ring after dropping a split decision to Tommy Fury. This loss takes some of the allure away from his run in the sport, but there's no denying that the sports world will once again have all eyes on Jake Paul's next fight, too.

The question is who Paul will face off against. He's clearly had a type — facing older, big-name opponents who didn't necessarily have much boxing pedigree. That makes it a pretty safe bet that Paul isn't going to risk a second straight loss against anyone who doesn't guarantee a massive spotlight.

Here's a look at the three most likely opponents for his next fight.

Jake Paul Next Fight: Most Likely Opponents

3. Tommy Fury

A rematch with Tommy Fury as his next fight would really be an ego move for Paul. Beating Fury after a close loss wouldn't do anything more to solidify him as a legitimate boxer (the close loss already proved he can at least hang with Fury), and being 1-1 against a rival obviously doesn't establish you as the clearly superior fighter. It's also hard to see the rematch generating the same kind of buzz as the first fight (just look at how much less interested the sports world was in the Tyron Woodley rematch compared to their first matchup). For as big as his ego seems to be, giving up a massive spotlight and paycheck to avenge a loss doesn't seem like Paul's most likely next step.

2. KSI

Back before his first Tyron Woodley fight, Jake Paul released a "hit list" of potential opponents. Some of them he's fought (Woodley, Fury), and some of them are completely unrealistic and won't happen any time soon (Conor McGregor, Kamaru Usman). One name would make a lot of sense to get him back on track in the win column though. KSI is another YouTuber-turned-boxer, who has fought six times since debuting in 2018. Even compared to Paul he has faced no real competition though, exclusively fighting fellow internet stars. His toughest opponent, Logan Paul, took him to a draw and a split decision in two meetings. Clearly the best boxer in the family, Jake Paul shouldn't have any trouble getting back in the win column against KSI. The real problem with this matchup is that it wouldn't necessarily be a great look to step back and fight another influencer immediately after taking the first loss of his boxing career. That's why the next name on the list is a lot more likely.

1. Nate Diaz

This one really checks all the boxes. Nate Diaz (along with brother Nick) are absolute superstars in the combat sports world despite the fact that the pair have just a combined two MMA wins (both from Nate) over the last five years. The Diaz brothers create beef and drama around every single one of their fights, and there has already been plenty of buildup to a potential matchup here — which has included both Paul brothers, really upping the public spotlight on this matchup. Diaz is also 37 years old and, while a skilled boxer in MMA, not a professional boxer. This really checks all the boxes for a Jake Paul opponent, and makes perfect sense for his next fight.
