3 Most Likely Kenny Golladay Free Agent Destinations

3 Most Likely Kenny Golladay Free Agent Destinations

Updated:

The start of the NFL's new league year is just one week away and teams are already starting to figure out which free agents should be targeted. This year's wide receiver class includes Kenny Golladay, who is in need of a fresh start after logging only 81 yards and 1 touchdown on 6 catches in 2022.

While his two seasons with the New York Giants were massively disappointing, Golladay is a former Pro Bowler with a pair of 1,000-yard seasons under his belt. It's always possible the right coaching staff and offense could guide him back to that elite level of production, especially since he's still only 29.

Here are three of the most likely free-agent destinations for Golladay.

Kenny Golladay Free Agent Destinations

1. Chicago Bears

Bears fans know Golladay all too well as some of the best games of his career came against Chicago in 2018 and 2019 when he was with the Detroit Lions. The Bears also targeted him during the 2021 offseason before he ultimately signed with the Giants. Chicago finished dead last in total receiving yards last season (2,598) and lacks a big-bodied receiver to line up opposite Darnell Mooney. Golladay is someone capable of hauling in jump balls with his 6-foot-4 frame and finding gaps in the defense to get open when quarterback Justin Fields scrambles. Keep in mind that Golladay will still be earning millions from New York over the next three seasons, which opens the door for Chicago to sign him to a cheaper deal.

2. Houston Texans

Houston finds itself in a similar situation as Chicago. The Texans are in the midst of a rebuild and need to surround what is expected to be a first-round rookie quarterback with pass-catchers. Brandin Cooks is an experienced weapon and Nico Collins has flashed some potential, but adding another deep threat to the roster wouldn't be a bad idea. Golladay averages 16.2 yards per reception in his career as well as 50.3 receiving yards per game. He has a knack for getting behind the defense, which would come in handy on an offense that ranked 25th in passing yards per game in 2022 (196.7). The Texans are in a great spot to take a chance on a reclamation project like Golladay.

3. New England Patriots

The New England Patriots have already revamped the careers of veterans like Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne over the last few seasons, so they could attempt to achieve a similar feat with Golladay. Jakobi Meyers is set to be a free agent and the Patriots would benefit from adding a weapon capable of aiding in the development of quarterback Mac Jones. Golladay has been praised in the past for his massive catch radius and would likely opt to sign with a contender rather than a rebuilding team. When it comes down to it, Golladay is a low-risk, high-reward free agent that will be overlooked by some teams. That kind of signing is right up head coach Bill Belichick's alley.
