3 Greatest Quarterbacks in Carolina Panthers History

The Carolina Panthers are still one of the NFL's newest franchises, joining the league as an expansion team ahead of the 1995 season, but they've already found plenty of success.

In the NFL, success doesn't usually come without strong quarterback play, so here's a look at the three greatest quarterbacks in the young history of the Panthers.

Best Quarterbacks in Carolina Panthers History

3. Jake Delhomme (2003-2009)

Jake Delhomme gets a spot on this list almost by default, as he led the Panthers to their first ever Super Bowl appearance in 2003, followed by the NFC Championship in 2005. He has the stats to back it up too, though, ranking second in franchise history in both passing yards (19,258) and passing touchdowns (120).

2. Steve Beuerlein (1996-2000)

Steve Beuerlein wasn't the Panthers' signal-caller for long, but he was terrific. He is third in franchise history in both yards (12,690) and touchdowns (86), while his 87.7 passer rating ranks number one. His peak year came in 1999, when he led the NFL in passing, throwing for 4,436 yards and 36 touchdowns.

1. Cam Newton (2011-2019)

The Panthers' all-time passing leader by nearly 10,000 yards, Cam Newton threw for 29,041 with 182 touchdowns during his near-decade at the helm. Just citing his passing yards doesn't do him justice, though, as he added 4,806 yards and a ridiculous 58 touchdowns with his legs. The Panthers had never made back-to-back postseason appearances before Cam was drafted, but they won the NFC South in three consecutive seasons with Cam from 2013 to 2015. That 2015 season was something special, as Carolina went 15-1 while Cam took home NFL MVP honors, and the team made their second-ever trip to the Super Bowl.
