AT&T Byron Nelson Field

A week before the second major of the year at the PGA Championship and a pair of Texans top the field at TPC Craig Ranch. World No. 2 Scottie Scheffler is back in action after skipping the Wells Fargo Championship. He has two victories and only one result outside the top 12 all season. Jordan Spieth finished runner-up last year behind now two-time defending champion K.H. Lee, who has gone low to shooting -26 and -25 under par to win the last two editions of the Byron Nelson. Spieth has five top-10s this season. Hideki Matsuyama, who tied for third a year ago, is set to return. Matsuyama withdrew from Wells Fargo citing the need for continued medical treatment on his neck

A total of 11 of the top 40 in the Official World Golf Rankings are playing. with four above plus Tyrrell Hatton, Tom Kim, Tom Hoge, Adam Scott, Seamus Power, Si Woo Kim, and Matt Kuchar. Plus, Aaron Wise (51) returns after nearly two months on the sidelines (mental health). Wise won this event at a different course during his 2018 Rookie of the Year season.

AT&T Byron Nelson Picks & Predictions

Rowlett Creek crosses the course 14 times. Wide open Zoysia fairways and large bentgrass greens set up a birdie fest and putting contest this week. If you're looking for players with the best course history over eight rounds at TPC Craig Ranch, the strokes gained leaders include K.H. Lee, Jordan Spieth, Scott Stallings, Hideki Matsuyama, Matt Kuchar, and Seamus Power. The first four mentioned also top the field in Birdies or Better Gained at TPC Craig Ranch.

Over the last 36 rounds, the Birdies or Better Gained leaders in this field are Scheffler, Spieth, Taylor Montgomery, Hatton, Jason Day, Sam Stevens, Dylan Wu and Tom Hoge.

Spieth and Scheffler would be easy picks to win, but at such low odds, we cannot endorse them. Seamus Power enters off his best finish since Feb. with a T-18 last week at the Wells Fargo Championship. Power's short game and putting (bent) rank top-10 in this field, and he's finished T-17 and T-9 at this course and event the last two years with an opening round 65 in 2021 and sitting top-4 into Sunday before falling a bit. The 36-year-old Irishman should be able to Power his way towards the top again.

Pick: Seamus Power to Win (+4400) and/or Finish Top 20 or Top 10 (+400)
