In what seems like a frustrating case of déjà vu for San Diego Padres fans, a top young player is dealing with a major injury just a few weeks before Spring Training. Top prospect Eguy Rosario suffered a broken ankle that requires surgery, causing him to miss at least multiple months.

This situation is a bit easier to stomach than the Fernando Tatis Jr. situation last year, considering Rosario suffered the injury during on-field drills instead of a freak accident while riding a motorcycle.

Still, it's a tough break for San Diego.

Padres Injury News

Rosario was listed as the No. 2 prospect in San Diego's minor leagues last year. The talented infielder made his debut last season for seven games in late August and September after tearing up the minors. The 23-year-old slashed .288/.368/.508 with 22 home runs and 21 stolen bases at Triple-A last year.

Rosario was in line to compete for a backup infield role during Spring Training. Instead, he'll likely head back to Triple-A for rehab games to get his timing back upon returning.

The Padres head into the season with +1000 odds to win the 2023 World Series on FanDuel Sportsbook -- tied for the fifth-best in MLB.
