Charlotte Hornets star point guard LaMelo Ball is still rehabbing a left ankle sprain. His status for opening night on Wednesday was up in the air until today, when the team officially announced he would be out.
LaMelo Ball Injury Update
The team made the announcement through its official Twitter account Tuesday afternoon.
While it wasn't official, Ball's chance of playing opening night was considered "highly doubtful" by head coach Steve Clifford. In the absence of Ball, Terry Rozier will take his spot. Rozier represents a very capable replacement, but you never want to go long without your best player out on the floor. On the other hand, you wan to be as cautious as possible with Ball, especially with an ankle injury.
The Hornets are currently 1.5-point road favorites against the Spurs on the team's opening night, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's latest NBA odds.
