Travis Etienne Fantasy Outlook Erupting After James Robinson Trade

Updated:

It was only a matter of time before Travis Etienne completely took over the Jacksonville Jaguars backfield. Just one day removed from the first 100-yard performance and TD of his NFL career, that idea came true.

The Jaguars traded James Robinson to the New York Jets on Monday night in the wake of Breece Hall's season-ending injury, and now Etienne's fantasy outlook is erupting as a result.

Hall went down with an ACL tear in Week 7 and the Jets' front office was quick to replace fantasy's current RB7. Robinson brings along 2,177 yards and 18 TDs (across 2.5 years) to his new Jets squad, a team clearly desperate to replace the production of their talented rookie back.

Travis Etienne Jr. Fantasy Outlook

Break off the shackles with joy! Etienne fantasy managers finally rid of the frustrating RB handcuff situation in Jacksonville after this move. Etienne easily slots into an RB1 role on all fantasy rosters, and his situation is enticing.

Robinson's departure leaves the Jaguars with 81 rushing attempts and 11 receiving targets completely up for grabs. The third-year pro actually ate up 42.6% of Jacksonville's rushing share (compared to Etienne's 35.7%), but that number was diminishing.

Etienne out-snapped Robinson 126-70 across the past three weeks, seeing 26 more opportunities (rushing attempts + targets) in this breakout stretch. The result was an RB13 performance in PPR leagues, and Etienne climbing his fantasy ranking from RB40 all the way up to his current standing at RB20.

JaMycal Hasty is the only other relevant running back behind Etienne on the Jags' roster. Expect an uptick in his usage, but his total of 8 opportunities show point to a heavy workload from Etienne down the stretch.

This trade makes Etienne a prime candidate to target in fantasy trades considering the second-year pro is rostered in 93% of Yahoo! fantasy leagues.
