Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Sleepers for Week 5

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Sleepers for Week 5

Updated:

This unpredictable 2022 fantasy season has managers scrambling to plug holes created by injuries or underperforming starters heading into Week 5. Aisde from the big-name waiver wire targets, there's a few under-the-radar players that could be worth rostering as well.

Here are three of the best fantasy football waiver wire sleepers for Week 5.

Waiver Wire Sleepers Week 5

Note: Only players rostered in fewer than 20% of Yahoo! fantasy football leagues are in consideration for this list.

1. Alec Pierce, WR, Indianapolis Colts (5% Rostered)

Alex Pierce has earned a decent workload after returning from a concussion that sidelined him in Week 2. Over the past two games, the rookie has seen 11 targets, which he's converted into 7 receptions and an impressive 141 yards. His 6 targets this past Sunday even tied him for the team lead as the Colts were forced to air it out after getting down big. That should be a consistent theme for Indianapolis this season, opening up the door for Pierce to become fantasy relevant on a team lacking wide receiver talent. The Colts could be especially pass-heavy in Week 5 with Jonathan Taylor banged up, and another good outing should put Pierce on more people's radars as a potential FLEX play. With bye weeks for stars WRs approaching, Pierce is a great proactive add in case his role really takes off.

2. Caleb Huntley, RB, Atlanta Falcons (1% Rostered)

Tyler Allgeier is one of the top waive wire targets in Week 5 after Cordarrelle Patterson was placed on injured reserve, but Caleb Huntley is worth consideration as well. The latter was promoted to the active roster this past Sunday and made an immediate impact, turning 10 carries into 56 yards and a touchdown. He did most of his damage on a particularly notable drive, where he racked up 53 yards and led the Falcons to the red zone before punching in a five-yard score. Though Allgeier is the frontrunner to lead this group, there's room for Huntley to get ground work on an offense that ranks No. 5 in most rushing attempts per game (32.8). Marcus Mariota is a measly No. 26 in passing yards this season, so the Falcons should continue to lean on their backfield, giving Huntley a chance to surprise.

3. Donovan Peoples-Jones, WR, Cleveland Browns (8% Rostered)

Donovan Peoples-Jones picked things up in a big way this past Sunday. He took advantage of a weak Atlanta secondary to command a team-high 9 targets, which he converted into 5 catches for 71 yards. This wasn't DPJ's first time seeing a large amount of looks, as he also saw a team-high 11 targets in Week 1 as well. He's put up 12 PPR points in both of those contests, so he has obvious FLEX potential depending on the matchup. He's got a great upcoming schedule that should help keep things going with the Los Angeles Chargers and Baltimore Ravens on tap. The Ravens have given up the most PPR points to WRs this season, and the Chargers are 10th in that area. Peoples-Jones looks like a sneaky depth piece that could managers get through early byes since he's not off until Week 9.
