49ers Reveal Official Injury Recovery Timeline for Trey Lance

Week 2's win over the Seattle Seahawks wasn't exactly a complete win for the San Francisco 49ers. The team will be without starting quarterback Trey Lance moving forward after he suffered a brutal ankle injury. An official recovery timeline has been revealed following the 22-year-old's surgery.

Lance will be out 4-to-6 months with a broken fibula as well as tears to the deltoid and sesamoid ligaments in his ankle. He tweeted following the surgery that he is "ready to attack this rehab process" and that "he will be back better than ever." It's a hope he shares with 49ers fans across the country.

Insider Ian Rapoport reported that San Francisco is still firmly committed to Lance as their QB of the future. It's a statement that needed to be made after Jimmy Garoppolo stepped in and led the 49ers to a big win. He completed 13 of his 21 pass attempts for 154 yards and logged 2 total touchdowns.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan has always praised Lance for his dual-threat capabilities and that is what sets him apart in a league that is being taken over by QBs that can do more than throw. Lance tallied 194 yards through the air, 67 yards on the ground and zero touchdowns across two starts this year.

49ers team physician Dr. Tim McAdams is confident that Lance will "recover completely in time for a full return in the 2023 season." That's vital as Garoppolo is set to enter free agency this offseason. San Francisco has odds set at +2000 to win Super Bowl 57, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
