These Hot MLB Hitters Have Carried Their Teams to the 2023 World Series

The Rangers and Diamondbacks are deadlocked at 1 game apiece in the 2023 MLB World Series—the 2nd-most unlikely championship matchup of all time. Both squads were rather large underdogs at the beginning of the season—Arizona more so than Texas. Together, they constitute the most unlikely World Series pairing since the 1991 series between Minnesota and Atlanta (which Minnesota won).

Per ESPN, the 174 wins this year that Texas and Arizona combined for in the regular season is the lowest among World Series opponents. Ever!

Neither of these franchises has experienced much success in October. The Diamondbacks have not appeared in the World Series since their only win in 2001 (versus the Yankees). The Rangers were last in the Fall Classic in 2011 (versus the Cardinals) but have never won a championship.

Let's take a look at the hottest Rangers and Diamondbacks hitters this postseason to better understand how they got this far. These are the top regular hitters in the 2023 MLB playoffs ranked by their FanDuel fantasy points accrued over the Wild Card, Division, and League Championship Rounds, plus the first 2 games of the 2023 World Series.

Rangers Outfielder Adolis Garcia is enjoying one of the best postseasons in MLB history. His 22 RBIs is already an all-time record for a single postseason. His 8 home runs place him in a tie for the 2nd-most all-time in a single postseason. Only Randy Arozarena (with 10 in 2020) has hit more bombs in one fall.

Of course, modern postseason records must always be accompanied by the disclaimer that there are far more playoff games now than there were back in the day. We keep adding new rounds.

Ronald Acuna Starts a New Club - the 40-70 Club

Sadly, this guy isn't in the MLB Playoffs anymore (after the Braves were knocked out by Philly), but he'll likely be the National League MVP and deserves some fanfare.

The 40-40 club is one of baseball's most hallowed, exclusive groups. Throughout the deep history of this game, only 4 players have ever hit 40 home runs and stolen 40 bags in one season—Alfonso Soriano, Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez, Jose Canseco. There is now a 5th—Ronald Acuna of the Atlanta Braves.

Acuna finished the 2023 regular season with 41 home runs and 73 steals—easily the most steals ever for a 40-40 player. The record was previously ARod's with 46. Acuna's .337 batting average is the highest ever for a 40-40 player, as are his 149 runs scored.

The Venezuelan-born Acuna is only 25 years old and has already created a new club that has never existed—the 40-70 club. Plenty of players in MLB history have hit 40 homers, and many have swiped 70 bags, but never in the same season. Power hitters aren't supposed to have that type of speed. Base stealers aren't supposed to have that much pop.

Acuna's 73 steals led baseball this year. The previous record for the most home runs ever in a 73-steal season was Rickey Henderson back in 1986. He swiped 87 bags that year and put 28 balls over the fence. Acuna may have had fewer steals, but he beat Rickey in batting average, on-base percentage, homers, doubles, RBIs, and runs.

Acuna draws a lot of walks (80) and hardly ever strikes out (84), which is how he's able to compile a league-best on-base percentage of .416. Acuna runs more than any other player in the game, leading the MLB in both steals (73) and times caught (14). Some managers would not want Acuna running all the time with such a powerful corps of bats behind him, but manager Brian Snitker gives Acuna the full green light. He's scored 149 runs atop that potent lineup, which is the highest-scoring in baseball. It's hard to argue with those results.

FanDuel Helps Make Smart DFS MLB Picks

FanDuel is delivering premium content for MLB DFS players Our staff delivers dynasty rankings, projections, strategy, cheat sheets, must-haves, and pricing comparison all in one convenient location.

The name of the game in MLB DFS or any fantasy sport is value. Value is evaluating the raw production of a player versus what you must pay to acquire him.

Wondering how to arrive at the perfect DFS player projections? We'll explain the keys for winning strategy when making MLB DFS player picks and lineup decisions.

Tips to Make Winning DFS MLB Picks

Difference Between Tournament and Cash Game DFS MLB Picks

Are you preparing your DFS army for a deep tournament run or a cash game? It makes a huge difference.

Deep tournaments typically begin at 1 PM ET with the early slate and last until the nightcap is completed at 11 PM ET. Tournaments require domination, meaning you must enter the war room with a completely different style of the lineup than you would a cash game.

A player's value is totally dependent on the type of daily fantasy sports game you are playing. Our premium tournament picks will be high upside MLB or KBO DFS players who research tells us have a chance to go off and bring home the bacon.

Our premium cash game picks are taken straight off the lineupHQ cheat sheets - whereMLB team rankings and matchups are king. In cash games, your research station should contain safe, high floor options with good player projections. This strategy is consistent across all sports - be it MLB, KBO DFS, or even NFL DFS.

Cash games include 50/50s and double-ups. They can be short slates - like games during the 1 PM ET time slot - or full-day slates. You do not need an astounding score to reach the domination station in cash games. An above-average score will get the job done. MLB, KBO, or NFL players from good teams in good spots are must-haves and should sit atop your player rankings on the home screen in your research station.

Imagine an aging, crafty starting pitcher who is never the talk of forums but pitches decently each time out. Players like these are must haves in cash games.

Now imagine a young, flame-throwing, high-strikeout rate pitcher. His arsenal is like a human cheat code, but sometimes he can't find the strike zone. When this MLB or KBO DFS player is locked in, he unleashes utter domination and brings home the win. A player like this is a premium pick in tournaments and fits the scripts well for all sports.

Know Who You Need to Beat in MLB and KBO DFS

In MLB or even NFL cash games, we only need to beat a small number of opposing fantasy players to profit. We should not take unnecessary risks and shoot for the moon when a much safer lineup could bring the win home.

It takes a little luck of the odds and some jackpot picks to win a tournament because we must beat out the strategy and research of so many other MLB, KBO, or NFL DFS players.

When patrolling our forum for premium picks to add to your DFS research station, understand which type of player you need to complete your lineup. Browse our premium content and select the best cash game or tournament option to fit your desired scripts for that day.

Our staff completes the hard work for you. We're in the war room every day factoring in odds, pricing, strategy, and player projections to bring you the best DFS MLB picks for your DFS needs.
