5 FanDuel Leaders on Responsible Gaming Across the Business

What does Responsible Gaming have to do with a media buy? More than you might think.

At FanDuel, Responsible Gaming extends beyond the tools customers see in the app. It shapes decisions across the entire company, including media investments, VIP relationships, communications and long-term business strategy.

During FanDuel’s Play With a Plan 2026 employee event, which took place on September 16th, President Christian Genetski was joined by FanDuel leaders to discuss their approach to Responsible Gaming and how it shows up in their work every day.

How FanDuel Builds and Evaluates Responsible Gaming Tools

Cory Fox, Senior Vice President of Public Policy and Sustainability, leads FanDuel’s Responsible Gaming efforts designed to protect and empower customers.

A key part of that work is ensuring FanDuel’s platforms are used only by those who meet the requirements to participate. That includes identity verification, financial safeguards to protect customer data, and ongoing monitoring to identify potential underage or proxy betting.

These protections help maintain a fair environment for all players. Over the last year, FanDuel blocked one million account creation attempts where identity could not be verified and conducted 58,000 manual Responsible Gaming reviews to help identify and address potential customer risk.

Fox’s team also develops player empowerment features like My Spend and Real-Time Check-In, which are designed to help customers better understand and manage their play.

As those capabilities have matured, the focus is shifting from simply building tools to proving their impact and improving how precisely they work for different customers.

“It’s really about understanding which of our tools are actually helping players manage their play better, for whom, and under what circumstances,” Fox said.

That work includes partnering with independent researchers to evaluate the effectiveness of FanDuel’s tools and interventions, while also collaborating through the Responsible Online Gaming Association (ROGA) to advance shared industry standards and best practices.

How Responsible Gaming Shapes FanDuel’s VIP Program

Jeff Lowich, Vice President of VIP and Retail Experience, and his team work closely with some of our most loyal customers, allowing them to better understand the type of service we can provide to each customer.

VIP team members can recognize when a customer may benefit from FanDuel’s player tools and recommend resources to help them manage their play in a way that works for them.

Many VIP customers play across multiple gaming platforms. Rather than encouraging them to spend more, Lowich says the goal is to provide an experience that makes customers want to choose FanDuel for more of the play they’re already engaging in.

“It is never our goal to have a customer bet a dollar more than they're comfortable playing,” Lowich said. “We want long-term sustainability.”

How Responsible Gaming Influences FanDuel Advertising

For Megan Matlock, Senior Vice President of Media, Responsible Gaming factors into decisions well before an ad reaches a customer.

Her team considers who sees FanDuel advertising, whether media partners can effectively filter to audiences 21 and older, the content surrounding those ads, and how frequently customers see them.

“Responsible gaming is at the center of every investment decision that we make about where and why and how we show up in the marketplace,” Matlock said.

For Matlock’s team, the focus is on reaching the right audience in the right environment:

“We have to grow the business...But that means we have to do it responsibly.”

How FanDuel Communicates About Responsible Gaming

Responsible Gaming also shapes how FanDuel communicates about sports betting and the customer experience.

“We want to showcase the entertainment experience that our platform provides while also helping people understand how they should be thinking about their budget and time they set aside to spend with us,” said Alex Pitocchelli, Senior Director of Communications.

The Communications team engages with reporters and other stakeholders to provide greater transparency into how FanDuel operates and the protections built around the customer experience.

Pitocchelli also discussed his team’s focus on serving as an educational resource for those learning about the industry for the first time.

"Responsible Gaming is a true commitment for us, and that comes through authentically when we tell our story because we have a real story to tell,” said Pitocchelli. “Whether it’s the proactive customer protections we’ve put in place, the regulations we operate under, the tools we offer our customers, or the ambassadors we work with to raise awareness."

Building Responsible Gaming Into FanDuel’s Business Strategy

For Jill Watkins, Senior Director of Strategic Enablement, Responsible Gaming is a core objective that helps shape how the Sports business evaluates new ideas, sets priorities, and plans for the future.

Jill's team works with RG subject-matter experts to embed their perspective into the planning process. Watkins said this approach helps the business make thoughtful decisions that support customers, sustainable growth, and strong relationships over the long term.

“We cannot create a FanDuel for the future without having our Responsible Gaming strategy at its core,” Watkins said.

Ultimately, the goal is for Responsible Gaming to become second nature for employees rather than something that needs to be introduced into every conversation.

“When RG is just a part of the culture and decision-making process, that's when FanDuel's at its best.”
