Meet AceAI: FanDuel's AI-Powered Sports Betting Assistant
"How many strikeouts has Shohei Ohtani recorded in his last five starts, and what's his strikeout line for tonight's game?"
Not long ago, answering this meant bouncing between multiple apps—comparing stats, checking available markets, and manually building a bet slip.
FanDuel created AceAI to simplify the process.
AceAI, FanDuel's conversational AI assistant, brings research, analysis, and betting tools together in a single experience. Customers can ask about player and team stats, explore available markets, and add selections to their bet slip—all without leaving the Sportsbook app.
It’s the first conversational AI experience of its kind in the regulated U.S. sportsbook industry.
Conversational Betting
AceAI is designed to meet customers wherever they are in their betting journey. The chat also remembers the conversation, so follow-up questions are seamless.
A customer might start by asking about Shohei Ohtani's recent pitching performance against a particular team. From there, they can ask AceAI to build a parlay featuring Ohtani to record over 6 strikeouts and the Dodgers to win, then add another leg for the game to go over the total runs line—all within the same conversation.
"We're seeing users go back and forth with Ace a lot," said Rebecca Jee, Product Director at FanDuel. "They find it genuinely helpful, and even when a response isn't exactly what they meant, Ace can adapt. We often see that lead directly to users adding that bet to their slip."
Empowering Confident Decisions
AceAI was developed by a team of around 20 engineers, AI specialists, product managers, and designers working alongside security, legal and compliance experts.
"We combined multiple large language models with our sportsbook infrastructure in ways that met our standards for accuracy, compliance and Responsible Gaming," said Jee. "As the technology evolved, we were able to incorporate new capabilities while maintaining the experience our customers expect."
Accuracy was also a priority from day one. AceAI pulls player and team statistics from trusted data sources, including numberFire, FanDuel's sports analytics platform, helping ensure reliable, up-to-date information.
Many customers come to AceAI to build confidence.
"A lot of users come to Ace before they've decided what to bet on," Jee said. "The stats and validation piece is just as important as the bet-building side. It's what makes Ace feel like a real assistant, not just a shortcut to the bet slip."
Built the FanDuel Way
Like every FanDuel product, AceAI was built with Responsible Gaming at its core.
The intention is to help customers make informed decisions, not encourage them to place more bets. Only the customer can add selections to their bet slip.
If a user's prompt suggests potentially harmful behavior, such as asking how to recover gambling losses, AceAI provides Responsible Gaming resources instead of betting recommendations.
Sensitive topics are handled using carefully designed, pre-approved responses, and flagged conversations can be reviewed and escalated to FanDuel's RG specialists when appropriate.
"You definitely don't want to rely solely on the LLM, especially in a space like this," Jee said.
Early Momentum
AceAI is currently available to all U.S. customers (except Connecticut) and supports NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, college football, college basketball, and soccer.
It’s processed more than 268,000 customer queries since launch.
FanDuel is continuing to explore how AceAI can make it even easier for customers to discover, research, and build bets as it's in its early stages.
For now, the most telling validation comes from customer behavior:
"Users find it and they immediately try to stress-test it," Jee said. "The more conversational capability we add, the more we see them come back."
