How To Make Tennis Betting Work

You might not consider tennis when looking for sports for gambling. But it’s easy to bet on tennis matches and to win big. Let’s look at how tennis betting works and how you can make the most of any wager. You’ll have to look at what bets are open, including alternates to what bookmakers bring out.

The Best Tennis Betting Options For Every Match

There are three types of bets to see when getting into tennis betting. These feature odds similar to what you might find for other sports bets:

  1. Win

A basic win bet is the most common one you’ll find. A win bet refers to who you feel will win a tennis match. The bet does not consider the margin of victory.

For instance, let’s say you were to bet on a match between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. You could place a match win bet on either one. You would simply pick whoever you feel will win.

  1. Game Spread

A game spread bet refers to how someone will win by a number of games. Going back to the Nadal and Djokovic example, Nadal may have a spread of -1.5, while Djokovic has a spread of +2.5. You can pick the spread bet stating that Nadal will have at least two more game wins than Djokovic. You could also take the other side and say that Djokovic will either win more games or have one or two fewer game wins during the match.

  1. Game Total

The total refers to how many games will take place in the match. This part of tennis betting entails picking whether there will be more or fewer games than what the line suggests. You could place a bet that a match will have more than 20.5 games, or another one saying there will be fewer than 20.5 games.

  1. Set Spread

The set spread is another of the picks to use. The bet involves who will win the most sets in a match. The set spread appears at -1.5 in most situations, with most tournaments entailing a best-of-three or five layouts.

  1. Set Total

The set total is similar to the game total, as it involves picking if a game will have more or less than a specific number of sets. The over/under is usually 2.5 for a best-of-three match or 4.5 for a best-of-five event. Think of this part of tennis betting as something where you feel the competition will go all the way to the maximum number of sets that could occur.

The Best Props For Tennis Betting

Some tennis betting lines may cover distinct prop bets. Here are a few to note:

  1. Alternate Lines

An average tennis betting site will list specific lines for a spread or an over/under total. An alternate line will involve something a little different, as the line may be higher or lower than anticipated. Bookmakers offer these alternates to invite courtsiders to place bets that may pay more, but those lines aren’t as likely to win.

For example, a match has an over/under line of 20.5 games. You could get a -105 payout for an over bet or -125 for an under pick. But you could pick an alternate line with different odds. You can shift the line to 18.5 with a -200 payout for an over bet and a +155 line for the under option. The odds will change when you move the line further from its original point. You could get a higher payout, but you’re also increasing the risk of a loss.

Alternate lines also work for game and set spreads. You could see a game spread of -4.5 with a -110 payout. But you can push it to -5.5 for a +160 reward. The odds of the game spread being that high won’t be as great, but the possible payout is better.

  1. Tie-Breaks

You could also bet on whether there will be a tie-break in a match. A tie-break occurs when both players have six games in a set. The people will play one more game to break the tie. You can bet that a tie-break will take place at some point in the match.

  1. Odd/Even Games

Another prop bet option is an odd/even game bet. You can bet on whether there will be an odd or even number of games during the match.

Check the Data For Tennis Betting First

You’ll enjoy the excitement that comes with tennis betting. But you should check the data on what makes are available first. Be sure to look for information on player rankings, trends surrounding those players, and much more. You can also look for details on how well someone can compete on a clay, dirt, grass, or hard court layout.
