New Orleans Saints 2022-23 Fantasy Outlook

Without the retired Drew Brees, the New Orleans Saints went 9-8 and fell short of the postseason last year. After failing to woo Deshaun Watson, the team decided to re-sign Jameis Winston to handle QB duties again. Winston is still rehabbing a torn ACL that cut his 2021 season short, but he’ll likely return in time to start Week 1. Winston exhibited remarkable efficiency last season, putting forth 1,170 yards, 14 TDs, and just 3 interceptions in 7 starts. If he continues to build upon that success, he could find himself serving as the Saints’ next franchise quarterback. If the FSU alum gets injured or takes a step backward, journeyman Andy Dalton will be waiting in the wings to take his place.

Receiver Michael Thomas, who missed all of last season due to injury, is expected to return for Week 1. When healthy, Thomas is one of the most dominant wideouts in the NFL, putting up 1,725 yards and 9 scores in his last full season. With the additions of 1st-rounder Chris Olave and former Brown Jarvis Landry, the Saints’ receiving corps is shaping up to be quite formidable. Unfortunately, the NFL may soon discipline all-world running back Alvin Kamara due to his arrest during the offseason. Losing Kamara, who ranked 9th among DFS rushers last season, would deal a severe blow to New Orleans’ offense.

New Orleans Saints Fantasy Defense

The Saints’ defense quietly put forth a dominant season in 2021-22, allowing the 4th-least points in football and netting the 8th-most sacks. Defensive end Cameron Jordan, who registered 12.5 sacks last year, will once again spearhead the Saints’ defense. In addition, linebackers Demario Davis and Pete Werner will serve as disruptive forces for New Orleans. The Saints lost both prior starting safeties this offseason, but responded by signing All-Pro safety Tyrann Mathieu in addition to Marcus Maye. Add in Pro Bowler Marcus Lattimore, and you’ve got one of the most stacked defenses in the NFL.
