The Las Vegas Raiders have signed free agent running back Alexander Mattison to a contract for the 2024 season. Mattison was expected to handle lead back duties for the Minnesota Vikings in 2023 after the team parted ways with longtime starter Dalvin Cook, but struggled to get into a rhythm before eventually losing work to Ty Chandler. The Athletic's Vic Tafur believes the Raiders have signed Mattison to back up Zamir White, rather than to compete for starting reps with the third-year back. Mattison's 2023 was an error-filled one -- the back committed 7 drops on just 44 targets and lost 3 fumbles -- but he had shown flashes of solid play in previous years. Hopefully the change in scenery helps him bounce back in 2024.

Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison will be released by the team, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. According to Schefter, Minnesota informed Mattison on Thursday that they will be releasing him. Mattison, who signed a two-year deal with the Vikings last offseason, will now become a free agent. Ty Chandler could step into a larger role for the Vikings moving forward. Last season, Mattison recorded 180 rushing attempts for 700 rushing yards and caught 30 of 44 targets for 192 receiving yards and 3 receiving touchdowns.
