What Are the Order Types on FanDuel Prediction Markets?

FanDuel prediction markets currently offer one Order type, the market Order, which fills your full Order at the best price available in the Contract at that moment.

You don't choose among Order types in FanDuel prediction markets; the market Order is the only type we currently offer, and the mechanic to understand is how your Order fills.

What Happens When You Submit a Market Order?

When you submit a market Order, it buys Positions at the best price available in the Contract right then, and we fill the Order. Depending on the amount you're trading and what's available in the market, that price may be an average across several price points. We fill the full Order amount only; we never fill a partial amount.

Say Yes Positions in a Contract are priced around 60 cents and you submit a market Order. It fills immediately at the prices currently available. If your Order is larger than what's offered at 60 cents, the remainder fills at the next available price point, and your final price is the average across those points.

Why Can the Price You See Differ From the Price You Get?

Prices in FanDuel prediction markets move because other users are buying and selling. If prices shift while your Order is processing, the price you get can differ from the price you saw at checkout. That gap is called slippage, and it runs both ways: positive slippage means you got a better price, negative slippage means a worse one. It shows up most in volatile markets, usually events that are about to start or end.

Two safeguards sit around this:

  • Price-change protection: Our systems attempt to minimize price changes greater than 5% in Order executions.
  • Checkout confirmation: If the price moves significantly while your Order is processing, we bring you back to the checkout screen to confirm the new price before the Order continues.

Payouts move with prices, so hold both sides in view: a Position can lose its full Premium, though you can never lose more than you put in.

Do FanDuel Prediction Markets Offer Limit Orders?

Not currently. Market Orders are the Order type we offer today.

For the general trading definition, the SEC's guide to types of orders puts it this way: “A limit order is an order to buy or sell a security at a specific price or better.” On order books that support them, a limit Order names the price you're willing to accept and only fills if the market reaches it, which means it may never fill. In FanDuel prediction markets, every Order executes as a market Order at the best available price.

Where You Can Trade and How to Start

Prediction markets on FanDuel span sports, culture, and finance, and they bring the sports experience to life through offerings such as Combos. A combo links multiple event contract selections into a single order. You might take a Position on a Contract like “Will California beat Texas in the Championship Game” or Predict where an economic figure lands at a set time.

There's one FanDuel app, and it's available in all 50 states. FanDuel is available nationwide, though what you can access depends on where you are. In states where FanDuel Sportsbook operates, you get the sports betting experience. In most other locations, eligible customers can access FanDuel Predicts, our prediction market trading experience. Prediction markets are open to US citizens 18 and older, though some markets may not be available in all locations. FanDuel Prediction Markets lists contracts that are available on CFTC-regulated derivatives exchanges, like CME Group and CDNA, and accounts are carried by FanDuel Prediction Markets LLC, a registered futures commission merchant and NFA member.

Once you're in, you can switch how prices display, including multipliers, cents, and percentage-based views; only the view changes, your potential payout stays the same, and a Position can lose its full Premium in any view.
