One of the best rivalries in the NFL has an opportunity to take on a new twist in free agency. According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the Minnesota Vikings are hosting a former Green Bay Packers Pro Bowler for a free agency visit on Monday.

Vikings Za'Darius Smith

Green Bay released edge rusher Za'Darius Smith at the start of free agency because of salary cap considerations. Now, Smith may be donning the uniform for Green Bay's biggest rival come September.

Defense remains a top priority for Minnesota after allowing the ninth-most points per game. Minnesota excelled at getting after the quarterback with 51 sacks, but uncertainty around Danielle Hunter and Everson Griffen's free agency leaves room for improvement.

Smith has been on somewhat of a wild ride in free agency. The two-time Pro Bowler reportedly agreed on a four-year, $35 million deal with the Baltimore Ravens before backing out. Big money contracts for Chandler Jones and Von Miller possibly played a role in his decision making here.

The connections run deep for Smith, who has been plagued by injuries of late. Smith worked with new Minnesota assistant head coach Mike Pettine and outside linebackers coach Mike Smith in previous stops. His health remains a concern, missing all but one game in his last year with the Packers thanks to a back injury.
