All-time sports moments live on forever in the history books and fan memories, but all-time NFL blunders seem to have found a permanent home on the internet (which can actually be far more long-lasting).
One famous mistake that blemished the arguably underrated career of former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo actually occurred while the QB was acting as a holder on special teams.
Romo's Fumbled Field Goal Snap Video
The agony, the shame, the shock. All emotions Dallas fans felt after Romo took the snap for a chip shot field goal (that would likely won the game and advanced the Cowboys into the second round of the 2006 NFL Playoffs) and muffed it. To Romo's credit, he had the awareness to desperately dash toward the end zone, but he came up just short, and looked up to the sky in disbelief.
In some ways, this moment ended up defining Romo's career. He was an incredibly consistent quarterback, but he never was able to get it done in the clutch. Romo became labeled as a choke artist, and this moment was an early indicator of that nature.
Perhaps, the moment was too great for the young quarterback at the time. Perhaps, he just screwed up. Whatever the reason for this extraordinary lack of concentration, Cowboys fans won't soon forget that Romo cost them in the 2006 season.
