Tyreek Hill remained one of fantasy top wide receivers once again in 2021. Despite a drop-off in downfield production, Hill still finished as the WR6 in PPR scoring formats.

Hill's decline as a deep threat is notable given how much of his stardom relies on big plays. He also has a new quarterback in Tua Tagovailoa, who is nowhere near as prolific of a passer as Patrick Mahomes.

Given these concerns, Hill's average draft position (ADP) has seen him slip slightly, though he still figures to be one of the top WRs off of the board.

Tyreek Hill Fantasy Football Outlook

Hill entered last season coming off of a WR2 finish, making him an early selection in 2021 drafts. He didn't quite live up to those expectations, though, posting fewer yards (1,239 vs. 1,276) and touchdowns (9 vs. 15) last year. He added an extra boost in PPR formats by posting career-high 111 receptions, easily outpacing the 87 mark he posted in 2020 and 2018.

Hill is regarded as one of the fastest players in the league, which made him a fantasy darling given his penchant for racking up big plays. Those were not nearly as frequent in 2021, as Hill posted the lowest average depth of target (aDOT) of his career at 10.4. Even more concerningly, he also set a career low with just 4.0 yards after catch per reception.

Heading into his seventh season, it's fair to wonder if Hill has lost a step as a deep threat. Losing his status as the premier downfield playmakers would certainly downgrade his fantasy upside if he's not breaking off big plays as consistently.

Potentially making things worse is Hill going from the rocket-armed Mahomes to the vertically challenged Tagovailoa. Miami's QB ranked 30th with just 98 throws of 10-plus yards in 2021, which paints a stark contract to the 192 Mahomes tossed.

The Dolphins' highest-ranked WR in PPR scoring was Devante Parker at No. 40 last season, so it's fair to worry about Tagovailoa being able to support a top fantasy pass-catcher.

Tyreek Hill Injury Update

Hill played and started all 17 games for the Kansas City Chiefs last season. However, he did suffer a heel injury prior to Week 18, and he ended up playing just 14 snaps before exiting the contest early. Hill also dealt with a quad injury during Weeks 6 and 7, though that didn't cause much of a drop-off from his usual workload.

Tyreek Hill Projections

NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook are projecting Hill to take a step back in 2022. His receiving yards over/under sits at just 1,025.5, with equal -112 odds on both outcomes. That would be his lowest yard total since 2019, when he was limited to 12 games and posted 860 yards.

Is Tyreek Hill a Good Fantasy Football Pick?

So is Tyreek Hill a good fantasy pick? Yes, though he doesn't come without some concerns. The 28-year-old showed signs of regressing as a deep threat, which is a key piece to him performing as a top WR. He's also clearly downgraded at quarterback with Tagovailoa, who hasn't proved he's a franchise guy yet.

Tagovailoa showcased a clear connection with fellow wideout Jaylen Waddle last year, targeting him 140 times, good enough to tie for the 11th most in the league. Waddle's importance as a slot weapon and safety valve makes him a better fit for Tagovailoa's short-pass nature. Hill needs the Dolphins QB to step up as a deep ball thrower if he's to have any shot at finishing as top-six fantasy WR again.
