Tyler Higbee Fantasy Outlook Shows Promising Upside After Gerald Everett Departure

Updated:

For the past two seasons, Tyler Higbee has been a reliable tight end option for fantasy managers. He's missed only two games over that span and put up respectable numbers, averaging 56.5 receptions, 627.5 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns.

What's been most impressive about Higbee's fantasy value is his split time with fellow Los Angeles Rams tight end, Gerald Everett.

Higbee checks in as TE14, according to FantasyPros preseason PPR rankings. However, with Everett departing for the Seattle Seahawks this past offseason, there's a lot of potential upside in Higbee's game.

Tyler Higbee Fantasy Value

For the past four years of Higbee's career, dating back to 2017, he's essentially held split duties with Everett from a pass-catching perspective. In 2020, the pair recorded 62 (Everett) and 60 (Higbee) targets. In 2018, Everett saw 50 targets compared to Higbee's 34.

However, the 2019 season is the best data to truly showcase Higbee's budding upside. In 2019, Everett missed Weeks 13-15 with injury and was held very much without a role in the final two weeks of that season.

Higbee's fantasy value absolutely exploded. Higbee ranked as the top tight end in football during that span, averaging 12.8 points per contest in five games.

Higbee projects as the Rams' best pass-catching tight end in 2021. Don't be surprised to see the Rams up their 36.9 pass attempts per game (12th) from last year with Matthew Stafford under center.

Tyler Higbee ADP

Higbee checks in as TE17 in The Duel's preseason fantasy football rankings. He may be a great sleeper pick for the position given his spot in the preseason rankings. If you value Stafford's ability to up the Rams' passing game, Higbee may worth a shot for fantasy managers.
