Trade Rumors Link Rangers to Reunion With All-Star Slugger

The Texas Rangers are starting to fall out of the AL Wild Card race thanks to a 2-8 record posted over their last 10 games. Completely overlooking them as a potential buyer at the trade deadline is a stretch, though. Insider Jon Heyman recently linked Texas to a reunion with an All-Star slugger.
Yankees are shopping Gallo but so far having trouble finding anyone willing to offer the type of prospect they seek. Padres and Rangers like him but both are wrapped up in Juan Soto talks at moment. https://t.co/Fqa6cHnu5k

Texas Rangers Trade Rumors
The Rangers are reportedly interested in acquiring Yankees' Joey Gallo. Yes, the same Joey Gallo Texas traded to New York one year ago for a group of prospects including Glenn Otto and Ezequiel Duran. It's an interesting pairing considering Gallo is a free agent at the end of the 2022 season.
It's become clear that Gallo's price tag may not be that high, though. Including just one low-level prospect could get the job done here. The 28-year-old is slashing a dismal .161/.285/.343 to go along with 12 home runs and 24 RBI across 80 games this season. His strikeout rate also sits at 38.2%.
Of course, Gallo's performance is an outlier when looking at the rest of his career. He shined as a two-time All-Star with the Rangers, smacking 145 home runs in seven seasons. Gallo has never been known as a contact hitter, but his ability to draw walks (111) unlocked a new part of his game in 2021.
The Yankees' acquisition of Andrew Benintendi only pushes Gallo further down the pecking order on offense. Sending him back to where he has played his best baseball could reignite his power at the plate. For now, Texas has odds set at +100000 to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
