Titans Get Grim Ryan Tannehill Injury Update Ahead of Week 16

Updated:

Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill underwent surgery to help repair his high ankle sprain earlier this week. While the Titans didn't put the veteran QB on Injured Reserve, in hopes he could make a return earlier than expected, it now looks like that won't be happening.

Adam Schefter is reporting that Tannehill will not play agin during the regular season and that it is "unlikely" he will be back for the playoffs either.

With Tannehill likely now done for the year, the team will be forced to turn to rookie QB Malik Willis as the starter the rest of the way.

Luckily, this won't be Willis' first action as an NFL starter. He has started two games so far this season, also due to Tannehill injuries earlier. In total, he has appeared in seven games for the Titans throughout his rookie season, though. Willis holds a 1-1 record in those starts.

The Titans head into a Week 16 matchup with the Houston Texans as 3.5-point home favorites, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's latest NFL odds.
