The Cleveland Cavaliers (27-16) are set to visit the Minnesota Timberwolves (21-22) for a Target Center showdown on Saturday, Jan. 14.

The Cavaliers have been alternating wins and losses lately, most recently picking up a 119-113 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday. Meanwhile, the Timberwolves improved to 5-1 over their last six games thanks to Friday's 121-116 win against the Phoenix Suns led by Anthony Edwards' 31-point performance.

Can Cleveland win back-to-back games for just the second time in January? Or will Minnesota keep the ball rolling with its fifth straight home win?

Timberwolves vs. Cavaliers Betting Trends

  • The Cavaliers have covered the spread 19 times this season (19-19-4).
  • So far this season, the Timberwolves have been installed as underdogs by a 3-point margin or more 12 times and are 4-8 ATS in those contests.
  • Cavaliers games have gone over the total 21 times this season.
  • The Timberwolves have hit the over 47.6% of the time this season (20 of 42 games with a set point total).
  • Cleveland has done a better job covering the spread when playing at home (12-7-2) than it has in road affairs (7-12-2).
  • Against the spread, Minnesota has been better at home (10-12-0) than on the road (8-12-0).

Timberwolves vs. Cavaliers Prediction & Pick

The Cavaliers might have the better record, but they've been horrendous on the road. They've lost 11 of their last 16 road games, only averaging 106.7 PPG. On top of that, Cleveland's been outscored by an average of 3.0 points during that span.

Meanwhile, the Timberwolves have notched victories in eight of their last nine home games. Their 120.4 PPG clip during that stretch is also impressive, as is their 51.7% field-goal rate. Besides, the T-Wolves have already proven that they can handle the Cavaliers, defeating them 129-124 in Cleveland back in November.

There's also the fact that the Cavaliers could be without leading scoring Donovan Mitchell, who's questionable for tonight with an illness. Considering how Minnesota is still riding the momentum stemming from last night's victory, a Timberwolves upset victory isn't out of the question.

Final Score Prediction: Timberwolves: 118 | Cavaliers: 112

Timberwolves vs. Cavaliers Best Bet

While I expect a Timberwolves upset, it's safer to back them on the spread than the moneyline. The Timberwolves are a solid 4-2 ATS in their last six games and have also covered the spread five times in their last six matchups with the Cavaliers. Furthermore, Cleveland is only 4-11-1 ATS in its last 16 road games.

With the Timberwolves playing great basketball at Target Center lately, look for Chris Finch's team to cover the 3.5-point spread.

Bet: Timberwolves +3.5 (-106)
