For most of their century-long rivalry, the New York Yankees have been the ones stealing players away from the Boston Red Sox going all the way back to Babe Ruth. That trend has continued into the 21st Century with more recent players like Johnny Damon and Jacoby Ellsbury.

Well, now is the time for the Red Sox to turn the tables. The Yankees have several key players heading to free agency and Boston has tons of money to spend, making this the perfect time to poach one of New York's top players and flip the rivalry on its head.

Boston Red Sox Free Agency

If the Red Sox really want to hit the Yankees where it hurts, they'll do whatever it takes to sign Aaron Judge.

Judge is coming off a monster season for New York that will likely net him AL MVP honors. He crushed an AL-record 62 home runs -- 18 more than Boston's entire outfield combined. The Red Sox desperately need a slugger like Judge, especially with Xander Bogaerts and J.D. Martinez potentially departing in free agency.

The towering outfielder is a good fit for other reasons. He's proven he can perform in a pressure-packed environment and is tailor-made for Fenway Park, where his right-handed power stroke could produce even more home runs with the Green Monster in left. He's also a solid defensive outfielder, which is an area of need for Boston.

After finishing last in the AL East twice in the last three seasons, the Red Sox have to take some big swings if they want to get back on top. They also need to reinvigorate the fan base after years of trading away star players and being frugal in free agency under Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom.

At the end of the day, signing Judge would solve a lot of problems for Boston while simultaneously creating a giant one for New York. If the Red Sox are serious about doing whatever it takes to win next year, adding Judge would be a great start.

The Red Sox currently have +4000 odds of winning the 2023 World Series on FanDuel Sportsbook's MLB odds, while the Yankees stand at +900. Judge switching teams, however, would close that gap considerably.
