Steve Smith Tweets Reaction to Christian McCaffrey Trade

Updated:

Considering the franchise has only existed for 28 years, there's very few players (past and present) in Carolina Panthers history that command the respect that Steve Smith Sr. does. When he speaks, Panthers nation listens.

That's exactly why all eyes turned on Smith's Twitter account on Friday morning when news broke about the team's blockbuster deal to send running back Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers. Smith tweeted out a reaction to the biggest trade of the 2022 season.

The message was simple, and it read "Happy for CMC but sad because we lost a great one !!!"

That likely sums up the thoughts of Panthers fans everywhere. Smith was sure to include a brief highlight clip of CMC, and naturally, chose an incredible leaping TD reception by the elite pass-catching back.

Smith and CMC have a lot in common, especially when it comes to the franchise's all-time leaderboard. Smith is all over the receiving list and ranks first in yards, TDs, and total receptions. McCaffrey actually ranks fourth in receptions, sixth in receiving yards and seventh in TD catches.
