Madden 23 has started to reveal player ratings over the last few days and the results have included a few surprises. Wide receivers had their ratings revealed on Monday and it's safe to say things did not go well for the Pittsburgh Steelers. In fact, it was an embarrassing outcome for the team's offense.

Diontae Johnson was the only WR with a rating over 78 as he checked in with an 85. However, that still ranks him outside the top 20 overall WRs in the game. It's clear that he is not being seen as an elite pass-catcher despite posting 1,161 yards and 8 touchdowns on 107 receptions last season.
It only gets worse from there. Chase Claypool was given a rating of 78, which is on par for many other team's WR3s. Claypool is Pittsburgh's No. 2 option following the departure of JuJu Smith-Schuster, though. Keep in mind he received this same rating last year, suggesting he showed no improvement.
When Johnson has the team's highest catch rating (91), something is wrong. That has long been the 26-year-old's weakness considering he has racked up 24 drops in three seasons. Players lower on the depth chart are going to have to step up to give quarterback Mitchell Trubisky the help he needs.
It's worth noting the few bright spots here. Calvin Austin has a 95-speed rating, which is the ninth-best mark at the position. 2022 second-round pick George Pickens is also the sixth-highest rated rookie in the game. Ratings will continue being released, with edge rushers on tap for Tuesday.
