The Cincinnati Reds got hit with a bit of bad news on Sunday, as it was revealed that Lucas Sims is unlikely to be ready for Opening Day. He's reportedly able to throw bullpen sessions, but had "hiccups" as he was preparing to get ready for Opening Day.

Lucas Sims Update

It's not like this is the end of the world, but it's obviously not the update that Reds fans were hoping to get.

Sims was excellent in limited action in 2020, pitching to a 2.45 ERA in 25 2/3 innings. But his development took a step back in 2021, as he earned a 4.40 ERA in a larger sample size of 47 innings. And the fact that he's already a little hobbled isn't exactly the best sign, either.

Hopefully the extra time off can help Sims get things back on track in 2022.
