  • Time: 7:30 PM ET
  • Venue: Scotiabank Arena -- Toronto, Ontario
  • Coverage: TSN and BSAZ

The Phoenix Suns travel up north to face the Toronto Raptors at Scotiabank Arena in one of nine NBA games scheduled for Friday, Dec. 30.

The Suns have been stuck in a rut recently, losing nine of their last 13 games — including Wednesday's 127-102 loss to the Washington Wizards. Meanwhile, the Raptors picked up their second-off back-to-back losses on Thursday, falling 119-106 to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Can the Suns figure out how to break out out of their slump on the road? Or will the Raptors finally stop their losing ways before they worsen?

  • The Raptors won 47 games against the spread last season, while failing to cover 35 times.
  • As 2.5-point underdogs or more, the Suns went 3-4 against the spread last season.
  • A total of 41 Raptors games last season went over the point total.
  • Out of 82 Suns games last season, 41 went over the total.

Raptors vs. Suns Prediction & Pick

Home hasn't been welcoming for the Raptors lately. They've lost five consecutive games at Scotiabank Arena, allowing at least 119 points in each game with a scoring margin of minus-8.8. It doesn't help that the Raptors have only shot 46.4% from the field and 33.6% from three-point range in that stretch.

The Suns have struggled with Devin Booker (groin) being sidelined, however, they didn't need him when they beat the same Grizzlies team on Tuesday that the Raptors just lost to. Besides, Phoenix's defense (111.9 PPG, No. 10) is still good enough to shut down a Toronto team that has issues scoring all season long (111.3 PPG, No. 26).

Back the Suns getting the victory in Canada.

Final Score Prediction: Suns: 113 | Raptors: 106

Raptors vs. Suns Best Bet

With how bad the Raptors have been lately, especially at home, I'm backing the Suns on the spread. They're 14-4 against the spread (ATS) in their last 18 games against the Raptors, who are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games and haven't covered the spread in the last five at Scotiabank Arena.

If Fred VanVleet (questionable, back) misses his second game in as many nights, I'll like the Raptors' odds even less. The Suns are the clear-cut better team here — even with their own injury issues — and will get the job done tonight.

Although taking the Suns on the spread is perfectly acceptable, I'm going with them on the moneyline as the best bet.

Bet: Suns ML (+102)
