While the franchise continues to deal with swirling rumors around a potential Bryan Reynolds trade, the Pittsburgh Pirates pulled off an under-the-radar acquisition on Sunday night. The trade actually brought back a former top draft pick to compete for everyday playing time.

In the move, the Pirates traded minor league pitcher Nick Garcia to the Rockies in exchange for 1B/OF Connor Joe. Joe was drafted by the Pirates at No. 39 overall back in 2014.

Joe never got any MLB playing time during this first stint in Pittsburgh and was dealt to the Atlanta Braves for Sean Rodriguez in 2017. He debuted with the San Francisco Giants in 2019 before moving on to the Colorado Rockies, where he slashed .252/.351/.393 with 15 home runs and 63 RBIs across 174 games played.

Now 30, it will be interesting to see how Joe performs for the team that originally drafted him.
