Pimlico Horse Racing Picks Including Black-Eyed Susan for Friday 5/19/23

Updated:

The biggest stakes races at Pimlico Race Course are this weekend in Baltimore. Included is Saturday's headliner - the $1.5 million Preakness Stakes. On Friday, there are six stakes races headlined by the $300,000 Black-Eyed Susan for 3-year-old fillies.

A total of 16 stakes races on Friday and Saturday draws fans to the track and all day mobile betting for horse racing enthusiasts. The first stakes race Friday starts in Race 4 at 1:02 p.m. ET with Race 13 and the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes at 5:44 p.m. ET with 12 runners going to post.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, monitor the weather, and keep an eye on the track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races after adjusting for track, distances, and conditions).

Pimlico Betting Picks

According to numberFire horse racing projections and Guaranteed Tip Sheet (GTS), these are some of the best bets to make at FanDuel Racing Saturday, including for the Preakness Stakes.

Did you follow FanDuel Racing picks and cash in a 3-for-3 day at Churchill Downs on May 4? All six win picks finished in the money providing additional Exacta and Trifecta payoffs. Also, in recent picks at Keeneland, Time For Trouble (18/1) cashed $2 win bets for $37.50 and a $2 exacta paid $189.

Mobile betting on horse racing is easy with the best-in-class experience at FanDuel.

1. Key of Life and Maple Leaf Mel, Race 10

FanDuel Racing Odds: 1/1 and 8/5

Race 10 is the $150,000 Grade 3 Miss Preakness Stakes for 3-year-old fillies sprinting 6 furlongs. The two favorites are expected to cash-in, according to numberFire and Guaranteed Tip Sheet. Key of Life (1/1) has won 4-of-5 at the distance. Maple Leaf Mel (8/5) ran the highest last race speed figure and often makes a strong mid-move.

Key of Life is ridden by top jockey Flavien Pratt, who gets many stronger, favored horses on Friday's card. Joel Rosario is the right rider for Maple Leaf Mel with his strength and strong stretch-riding ability.

2. Law Professor and Rattle N Roll, Race 12

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/2 and 9/5

Race 12 is the $250,000 Grade 3 Pimlico Special at 1 3/16 miles. Eight runners are lined up and numberFire's projections have Law Professor (5/2) outdueling the favorite Rattle N Role (9/5) and Clapton (6/1).

Guranteed Tip Sheet rates those two favorites best as well, and notes that Law Professor upped his in-race numbers from start to finish in his last minor stakes win in April. He's finished in-the-money in four of his last five starts with two wins and consistent triple-digit speed figures.

Rattle N Roll should be close to his best in the third race after a layoff and he just won the Grade 3 Ben Ali Stakes a month ago with a top 106 speed figure.

3. Taxed and Faiza, Race 13

FanDuel Racing Odds: 15/1 and 7/5

Race 12 is the $300,000 Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/8 miles. The top pick according to numberFire's data and Guaranteed Tip Sheet is the favorite, Faiza (7/5) with top jockey Flavien Pratt riding. She ran the highest last race speed figure winning the Grade II Santa Anita Oaks. She's a perfect 5-for-5 including 3-for-3 this year in graded stakes for trainer Bob Baffert.

Longshot Taxed (15/1) is getting good at the right time and should be included in exacta and trifecta wagering. She had shown improved speed in previous races, then posted a lifetime top speed figure last race in a runner-up finish in the Fantasy Stakes (G3). Other win contenders at a price include Merlazza (6/1) and Comparative (12/1), with Luis Saez riding for trainer Brad Cox.
