Phillies Being Disrespected by Projected 2022 Win Total

Updated:

Philadelphia fans are anxious to see some improvement during the 2022 MLB season considering the Phillies own the longest active playoff drought in the National League. Manager Joe Girardi's squad hasn't made the postseason since in over a decade and fell short in 2021 with a record of 82-80.

Unfortunately, projected win totals released on FanDuel Sportsbook expect more of the same is on the way for Philadelphia. The Phillies' win total mark in set at 86.5, with -106 odds on the over and -116 odds on the under. They also have odds set at +400 to win the NL East division.

Philadelphia Phillies Projected Win Total

The Phillies projected win total ranks 11th across the MLB. While that sounds impressive, it only ranks third in the NL East, putting Philadelphia well behind the New York Mets (91.5) and Atlanta Braves (91.5). The idea of 87 wins being enough to make the playoffs seems unrealistic at this point.

It's not like the Phillies got worse in the offseason, either. In fact, they made moves to address the issue that plagued them throughout 2021. Signing veteran relief pitchers like Jeurys Familia and Brand Hand will hopefully improve a bullpen that finished with the fifth-highest ERA in the NL.

Keep in mind Philadelphia averaged 4.53 runs per game last season (No. 12 in MLB). The front office decided to add more firepower to the lineup by signing sluggers Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos. Both players made the All-Star game and smacked at least 32 home runs in 2021.

The one-two punch of Cy Young runner-up Zack Wheeler and All-Star Aaron Nola may not rival that of the Mets' starting pitchers, but it isn't too far behind. Simply put, the Phillies have the pieces in place to make some noise in 2022 and exceed all expectations by finishing with more than 90 wins.
