The Carolina Panthers shocked the NFL earlier this week with a blockbuster trade that sent star running back Christian McCaffrey away to the San Francisco 49ers. Now, just hours before their first game in the post-McCaffrey era, the team revealed a first look at the new running back depth chart.
Interim head coach Steve Wilks revealed his official RB depth chart ahead of a Week 7 clash with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Chuba Hubbard is considered the Week 7 starter, although Wilks indicated this will be a "by-committee approach" in the coming weeks. This leaves veteran D'Onta Foreman in a backup role, one that he's maintained since joining the team this past offseason.
Neither running back saw much work before the McCaffrey trade. In fact, they've only recorded a combined 18 rushing attempts and 1 target.
Hubbard started 10 games a year ago while McCaffrey dealt with injuries, and put up at least 10 rushing attempts in seven of those ball games. His best performance came in Week 5 of the 2021 season where he rushed for 101 yards on 24 attempts and caught 5-of-6 of his targets.
Foreman is a running back with five years of NFL experience, putting together just 4 starts across his career. The former Houston Texans draft pick recorded 566 and 3 rushing TDs for the Tennessee Titans last year.
As of now, the McCaffrey-less Panthers enter Week 7 as 13.5-point home underdogs per NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
