Panthers Reach for Quarterback in Todd McShay's First 2023 Mock Draft

Updated:

The NFL enters the final month of the regular season in Week 15 and the league is beginning to get a clear look at the playoff picture. This also coincides with the end of college football's regular season, which makes it the perfect time to look ahead at the 2023 NFL Draft.

ESPN's Todd McShay unveiled his first mock draft on Tuesday and has the Carolina Panthers reaching big for a quarterback in the first round.

McShay used ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) for the order of his first mock and thinks the Panthers will draft Florida Gators quarterback Anthony Richardson with the No. 11 pick.

Richardson is a sophomore quarterback with just 13 starts in his college career. Keep in mind, his Gators' squad went just 6-6 in his first full season under center. The 6-foot-4, 232-pound gunslinger displays good physical traits such as "elite mobility" and a "rocket arm," but even McShay believes this is a reach.

He cites the Panthers as being out of choices. Unless they are able to swing something in free agency, it could be a desperate situation for Carolina.
