Padres vs Mets Predictions, Odds, Schedule and Probable Pitchers for NL Wild Card Round MLB Playoffs

Updated:

The MLB regular season wrapped up on Wednesday and finalized its official 2022 postseason bracket. There are 12 teams, six from each league, fighting for an opportunity to take home the World Series title.

One of the series many baseball fans have circled is a matchup between the 4-seed New York Mets and 5-seed San Diego Padres. New York collapsed their 10.5-game NL East lead down the stretch, but was able to capture the top Wild Card spot with an impressive 100-win season. San Diego looks to give New York a run for their money with a powerful lineup headlines by names like Manny Machado and Juan Soto.

Padres vs Mets Probable Pitchers

Game 1

Padres: Yu Darvish (16-8, 3.10 ERA)
Mets: Jacob deGrom (5-4, 3.08 ERA)

Game 2

Padres: Blake Snell (8-10, 3.38 ERA)
Mets: Max Scherzer (11-5, 2.29 ERA)

Game 3

Padres: Joe Musgrove (10-7, 2.93 ERA)
Mets: Chris Bassitt (15-9, 3.42 ERA)

Padres vs Mets Prediction & Pick

Even with the team completely collapsing down the stretch, a very "Mets" thing to do, it's hard to bet against the starting pitcher dominance of Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom. Yes, neither ace looked like unhittable in that crucial Braves series at the close of the regular season, but they also kept the Braves to 4 runs and 3 runs, respectively. Bad starts are rare for these two; their career ERA marks of 3.11 (Scherzer) and 2.52 (deGrom) don't lie and one average start doesn't erase a career's worth of dominance.

Scherzer and deGrom look like true aces, and the Mets will soon forget about their late-season collapse.

Final Series Prediction: Mets win, 2-0
