LeBron James looks to inch closer to making NBA history when his Los Angeles Lakers (24-28) visit the slumping Indiana Pacers (24-28) on Thursday.

James only needs 88 points to surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the all-time points list after his 28-point effort helped Los Angeles to a 129-123 overtime win over the New York Knicks. Meanwhile, Indiana lost for the third consecutive game with a 112-100 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies over the weekend.

Do the Lakers have what it takes to achieve their second straight win? Or will the Pacers end their losing ways before they worsen?

  • Los Angeles has covered the spread in a higher percentage of its home games than road games. It has covered 12 times in 24 opportunities at home, and it has covered 12 times in 26 opportunities in away games.

Pacers vs. Lakers Prediction & Pick

Despite a solid start to the season, the Pacers have gone off the rails lately. Rick Carlisle's team has lost 10 of its last 11 games, getting outscored by an average margin of 9.9 points during that stretch. Opponents have been scoring 123.2 PPG against Indiana during that time -- the third-most in the NBA.

The Lakers aren't perfect, but their 117.0 PPG clip (No. 5) shows that they're capable of doing damage against Indiana's uninspiring defense. James has played a big role in keeping the offense alive, averaging 34.4 points on .511/.382/.815 shooting splits over his last nine games.

It's going to be hard for Indiana to keep up with that offense — especially if Tyrese Haliburton (questionable, knee/elbow) doesn't suit up. After all, the Pacers are 2-10 without him this season.

With LeBron chasing history and trying to get his team back into the playoff hunt, look for LA to easily handle Indy.

Final Score Prediction: Lakers: 127 | Pacers: 118

Pacers vs. Lakers Best Bet

Covering as the 2-point favorites shouldn't be an issue for the Lakers. Los Angeles has not only gone 5-2 ATS in its last seven games, but it also owns a 6-1-1 ATS record in its last eight road outings. Meanwhile, the Pacers are 1-8 ATS in their last nine contests and have failed to cover the spread in 13 of their last 21 games against the Western Conference.

As long as LeBron, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook show up in some capacity, the Lakers won't have trouble winning this by at least one three-pointer.

Bet: Lakers -2 (-110)
