There's excitement going around the baseball world now that the MLB trade deadline is just over 24 hours away. The New York Mets are expected to be one of the more active teams on the trade market, hoping to capitalize on their +700 odds to win the 2022 World Series on FanDuel Sportsbook.

Even though the Mets have led the NL East for the majority of the 2022 campaign, they still have room for improvement.

With adding another bat being one of the club's top priorities, acquiring Baltimore Orioles utility player Trey Mancini is one last-minute trade that can help New York win a title this fall.

New York Mets Trade Rumors

The Mets have been connected to Mancini for some time now. Even though they have a top-five offense this season, they're only batting .245 against left-handed pitchers, ranking only ninth-best in the National League.

However, Mancini's solid play at the plate could help with that. The versatile right-handed batter has racked up 10 home runs and 41 RBIs through 92 games so far this season. He's been walked 35 times while also slashing .268/.347/.404 — an improvement over last year's numbers.

Mancini's ability to play just about any defensive position allows Buck Showalter the luxury of slotting him in wherever he sees fit. Furthermore, Showalter's time managing the Orioles a few years back already gives him a connection to the 30-year-old that should benefit the Mets.

The icing on the cake is the fact that Mancini has a mutual option for the 2023 season. If he winds up going on a deep run with the Mets, that could entice both sides to run things back again next season, making him more than a deadline rental.

The Mets have prospects like shortstop Ronny Mauricio and infielder/outfielder Mark Vientos that they could use to entice the Orioles. Along with a slew of right-handed pitchers in the system, New York has no shortage of pieces to move.

Fortunately, fans don't have to wait too long to find out if Mancini ends up in a Mets uniform. The MLB trade deadline takes place on Tuesday, Aug. 2 at 6 p.m. ET.
