Injuries to top starting pitchers might make life difficult for some teams, but not the New York Mets. Despite aces Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer missing significant time, the Mets are pacing the National League with a 38-21 record after 59 games.

Much to their dismay, the Mets aren't being respected as much as they should be. ESPN is only listing them as the No. 3 team in their Week 9 MLB power rankings, putting them behind the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers, respectively.

Mets Power Ranking

The Dodgers deserve respect because of how stacked their roster is, but the fact that the Mets are the NL's top team despite their injuries prove that they deserve the higher ranking.

The Mets and Dodgers just faced off in a four-game series in Los Angeles last week, ending with the clubs splitting the series at two games apiece. The run total was fairly close, with the Dodgers slightly edging out the Mets, 16-15.

It's not hard to assume that things would've gone more in the Mets' favor if they had both Scherzer and deGrom. Both men are Cy Young candidates when healthy and being able to keep up with the Dodgers without them shows just how good the Mets are.

The only reason why ESPN might favor the Dodgers over the Mets is due to the latter having better team stats. The Dodgers are averaging a Major-League-best 5.25 runs per game with a 2.90 ERA (No. 2), whereas the Mets rank second in runs scored (5.07) while owning the 16th-worst ERA (3.82).

Nevertheless, everything is looking promising regarding deGrom and Scherzer's eventual returns. Once that happens, ESPN may want to think twice before ranking the Dodgers ahead of the Mets.

Mets World Series Odds

ESPN's power rankings aren't the only place where the Mets face disrespect. FanDuel Sportsbook has the best team in the NL at +750 to win the 2022 World Series, putting them in a tie with the Houston Astros for third-best odds behind the Dodgers (+380) and Yankees (+500).
