Likely Jose Abreu Free Agency Price Tag Revealed

Updated:

It's been less than a week since the World Series ended and teams around baseball already have their eyes on free agency. That includes the Chicago White Sox, who have a tough decision to make regarding the future of veteran slugger Jose Abreu.

Abreu officially became a free agent on Sunday, and now MLB insider Kiley McDaniel has revealed the expected price tag on his next contract.

Jose Abreu Contract

McDaniel projects Abreu to receive a contract in the neighborhood of two years and $46 million, or $23 million in average annual value (AAV).

While his power dipped last season at age 35, Abreu remained one of the better hitters in baseball. The former MVP slashed .304/.378/.446 while posting the lowest strikeout rate (16.2%) and second-highest walk rate (9.1%) of his career.

Abreu will turn 36 before Opening Day, but McDaniel believes his unique offensive skill set will still garner him a multi-year deal.
