The San Francisco 49ers were given an injury scare on Friday when it came to wide receiver Deebo Samuel. The third-year wideout left practice early with some sort of injury, with reporters in attendance saying that he was walking slowly. While the injury has yet to be revealed, this isn't the greatest news for a player who missed nine games in the 2020 NFL season due to various injury designations.
Deebo Samuel Injury Update
Fortunately, there is some good news regarding Samuel's injury. While he didn't return to practice as a participant, he did watch the rest of it from the sidelines. Had the injury been significant, you would think that he would've been with the doctors away from the field.
Aside from Samuel, 49ers players were dealing with injuries all last year, leading to the club finishing at the bottom of the NFC West with a 6-10 record. With what was supposed to be a healthy roster, Samuel was projected to be one of San Francisco's top pass-catching options in 2021. After all, the 25-year-old has shown promise when he has played, catching 90 balls for 1,193 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns in 22 career games.
Whether Samuel's injury is for the long or short term, the 49ers are projected to be a championship contender this season. San Francisco has +1400 odds to win Super Bowl 56, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, which puts them in a tie for fifth-best odds with the Baltimore Ravens.
