Kentucky Oaks Pick

Dorth Vader won the FanDuelTV Grade 2 Davona Dale at Gulfstream March 4. She was a big 46/1 longshot that race and then finished a close 4th at 4/1 odds in the April 1 FanDuelTV Gulfstream Oaks. She had the lead in the stretch of that 1 1/16 mile race before giving way to strong-closing filly Affirmative Lady, who was 8/1 that race. Dorth Vader was training like a filly on fire at Gulfstream in recent weeks leading up to the Oaks. That included a 5 furlong bullet work in 58.25 seconds during a driving rainstorm while galloping out strong past 1-mile. Dorth Vader's 20/1 odds are too long as a competitive longshot challenger with a jockey change to top rider Luis Saez.

The handicappers at Guaranteed Tip Sheet also give her a shot, along with longshots and value plays on Wonder Wheel (12/1), Southlawn (8/1) and Defining Purpose (12/1). In the GTS wagering guide, they note that Wonder Wheel won a Grade 1 race in Nov., but she never fired in a Grade 1 race month ago at 3/2 odds, which was won by big longshot Defining Purpose.
