Justin Herbert might only have two NFL seasons under his belt, but he's already become one of the best quarterbacks in the league. Proving that the sophomore slump is just a myth, the Los Angeles Chargers gunslinger finished as the QB2 in fantasy with 395.76 points, trailing only Josh Allen (417.58).

Since the 2021 season ended, the AFC West has become a lot more competitive. Naturally, potential Herbert fantasy managers are wondering if the divisional changes will have an impact on the 24-year-old's upcoming fantasy season.

Justin Herbert Fantasy Football Outlook

Herbert's arm was a force to be reckoned with in his sophomore season. The former Oregon product completed 443 passes for 5,014 passing yards and 38 touchdowns to 15 interceptions. With most of his major statistics improved from his rookie year, Herbet was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time.

Herbert should have no trouble excelling with wide receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, as well as running back Austin Ekeler, on his side. As long as WR Jalen Guyton can build on last season's late performances and tight end Gerald Everett can be a reliable target, the sky is the limit for Herbert.

With the 2022 campaign just over a month away, Fantasy Pros lists Herbert as the QB3 in PPR formats, which is fitting after last year. He also carries an average draft position of 37.2, meaning he's someone that managers will likely target somewhere around Rounds 3 or 4.

Justin Herbert Projections

Projections from the NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook are quite high on Herbert. He's currently the sportsbook's +700 favorite to lead the NFL in passing yards this season after finishing only behind Tom Brady (5,316) in the category last year.

Furthermore, Herbert has the second-best odds (+600) to be the NFL's passing TD leader in 2022. Brady is the only player with better odds (+500) than Herbert, proving just how highly-respected the Chargers' QB is among oddsmakers.

FanDuel is also listing Herbert's projecting passing yards total at 4,600.5 with -112 odds on both the over and under. He's averaging 4,675 passing yards in his first two NFL, having easily surpassed the over on the prop last year.

Is Justin Herbert a Good Fantasy Football Pick?

Only 14 QBs in the history of the NFL have thrown for 5,000-plus yards and Herbert is one of them. Considering that he accomplished that at the age of 23, it's easy to see how there's room for him to become even better in 2022 and beyond.

The Chargers owned a top-five scoring offense in 2021 and that should be the case (or at least close to it) this season. Even with the AFC West becoming more competitive, Herbert is good enough to cause headaches for even the best defenses, which is even easier with the terrific cast of weapons around him.
